My Two-Cents: One Mans Treasure is Also my My Treasure

What do you want to be when you grow up?

When I was younger, my cousin use to answer this question with Racecar. Not racecar driver, because that was simply unrealistic. He wanted to be the racecar. Lighting Mcqueen in the flesh. At his preschool graduation, my other cousin wrote he wanted to be a daddy. Both are top-notch answers in my opinion. I think I wanted to be Wendy from Bob the Builder; she seemed like a grade-A badass in my five-year-old eyes. My sister and I use to watch that show like it was the lunch-hour soup opera for toddlers. My sister, however, really wanted to be Bob. One year, for Halloween, she told my mom she wanted to be Bob the Builder. My mom asked if she was sure she didn’t want to be Wendy, and the 3-year-old clarified, “NO, I SAID I WANT TO BE BOB.” So Bob the Builder she was at the 2007 Barnes and Noble Halloween Party; you tell them, Brooke.

Some of my friends have known what they’ve wanted to do since birth, but I find myself falling in the opposite category. I’m still not completely sure what I want to do, but I figure it seems like a good idea to die trying. Somewhere in the mix, I’ll figure it out. Or if that doesn’t work out, I can always fall back on being Wendy from Bob the Builder. Except for the slight problem that I don’t have any handy-man skills. (Side note, I feel like Bob and Wendy always had something going on.) But for the time being, being in the mix doesn’t seem too bad. The mix is fun! This mix lets you dabble. I’m pretty sure I’ll end up fixing teeth for a living, and I’m also pretty sure I’m gonna love it. Though, as the saying goes, One man's trash is another man's treasure, to someone else, fixing teeth for a living sounds like their own personal hell. For someone else, being a racecar or daddy sounds much more appealing. You won’t know until you head over to the mix. In the mix, I like to think that one man's treasure is also my treasure. Everything is up for grabs! Though, I think I’m on my way out of the mix; I’m applying to graduate programs as I write this. I want to say it’s been a great run though, I’ve found lots of trash, lots of treasure, and a liking for working in people's mouths. But hey, what can I say – I’ve always been pretty good at mouth stuff!

Just kidding.

Not really.
